During the third quarter of 2024, the equity and social justice (ESJ) committee met once to discuss upcoming topics that would be presented at the board meeting and finalize their summary of the 2024 DEIB survey.
In their August meeting, the ESJ committee discussed ways the ESJ committee could consult on current board priorities.
- Input for the Grants Committee
- As the majority of funds AUA raises currently funds grants, the committee was in favor of consulting with the grants committee in some way.
- When all board members (two of whom are also committee members) were asked to give feedback for grants committee changes following the September board meeting, the committee’s desire to consult was met.
- Logo Design Input
- The ESJ committee discussed the logo design competition proposed by a fellow board member. The committee asked questions about whether the organization name was inclusive enough for all members, whether limiting designs used by AI was inclusive and engaging, and whether the timing of the competition was appropriate given concerns about name inclusivity.
- The logo design competition was discussed at the September board meeting. It has changed to a general design competition and may be done later than originally planned.
- The general question about the organization name and whether it is inclusive of all members is still pending for the larger board and membership to consider.
This September, an ESJ committee member updated the Alliance’s ESJ web page to ensure all relevant ESJ information was available on one web page.
